Carly and I get about.
Well, we like to get away. Regularly.
Recently we had a short break in Devon. A friend said to us recently 'you two get away all the time'. I hadn't really considered it before.
At first I felt like I needed to justify it. Like it was a criticism.
Some people work hard towards their one big holiday of the year - two weeks in the sun, or whatever it may be. That's fine of course.
I make no judgements.
We just tend to holiday slightly differently - a weekend here, a few days there. Even the odd one night 'holiday'. In fact, I'd say we've got 'short breaks' down to a tee...
This is due to the following reasons:
1. We like to explore. I get bored easily. Skittish. Routine stifles me.
2. Carly gets home sick.
Quickly.
Very quickly. It's both endearing and frustrating.
3. We both work very hard.
Full-time jobs, children, tutoring in the evenings, studying, commuting - life is damn busy.
(NOT THAT WE'RE ALONE IN ANY OF THAT OF COURSE!)
4. Airbnb
Airbnb has had a massive impact on our lives. At the drop of a hat we can jump in the car and be on an adventure, and very cheaply too.
If you haven't Airbnb'd yet, you're missing out!
4. Co-parenting
Having time on our own without the children (although that will change in September when the little one arrives - yikes!) gives us some freedom.
We exploit that.
It's an opportunity.
5. Rest.
I 'rest' better away from home. So does Carly.
Getting away clears the mind.
Short, regular trips are the way forward I think.
They work for us - for now, at least...
Anyway, all shots in this blog were from our recent Devon 'get away'...
